In 1923, George Buchanan began organizing an annual trip to Alaska for 50 young boys. The kids paid part of their way by selling kitchen and housewares door-to-door. A large sign that reads "On to Alaska with Buchanan" is painted on the canyon wall along the White Pass & Yukon Route near Skagway, Alaska. It's also inscribed on his tombstone.
