		<description>that&#039;s amazing. I had no idea that we made them extinct because we were EATING them. and it&#039;s mind-boggling to realize that an animal so common and abundant could be wiped out in a human lifetime.

		<description>Oh, passenger pigeons. When I was a kid my dad did a lot of audio-visual work for the DNR, including recording, editing and installing all of the audio for the AV displays in every one of Michigan&#039;s State Park Visitor Centers. 

I was probably about five when I heard the sad tale of the passenger pigeon&#039;s extinction drifting from his studio as he meticulously edited tape. Probably because it was the first exposure I had had to the concept of extinction (other than dinosaurs, which at that point in my life were still, simply, cool), the plight of the disappearing passenger pigeon never left me.

Michigan had one of the largest populations of passenger pigeons anywhere. Its hard to believe. http://www.eco-action.org/dt/pigeon.html</description>
